Our Favorite Oscar Moments

The day after the Oscars, it’s not always the dresses that stick with us. Sometimes it’s about those ineffable moments that can only happen in Hollywood. Here are three of our favorites from last night. The all have one important thing in common: family.

Maybe bringing your parents is a good luck charm. If so, it sure worked for winners Leonardo DiCaprio, who brought his frequent date, his mom, Irmelin, to both the Oscars and the Vanity Fair party, and Alicia Vikander, who brought both her parents. (How stunning is her mother’s dress?) We love that these two, one at the peak of his career, the other just starting out, both remember where they came from.

Best Animated Film winners Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera’s sweet tribute to their kids, who must have been so excited at home. Their exhortation to all kids going through the hard time of simply growing up to channel their energy into making things and being creative, made us laugh and tear up the same way their film, Inside Out, did. Great work comes from the most fundamental places in the heart.

First-time chic reader. I also chose Alicia Vikander’s stunning yellow as my favorite. Both mothers (hers and Leonard’s) can teach the younger set how to dress for an elegant evening. Very classy.
