Style Scout: The Oscars

The Oscars are always a fun escape into the fairy tale world of Hollywood. We enjoy cheering for our favorite nominees (this year, we’re secretly rooting for Sylvester Stallone to win Best Supporting Actor for Creed), but our close attention is reserved for best performance in fashion! We love seeing what everyone wears on the red carpet. Here are the trends we’re keeping a lookout for this year.

We love classic white, from shirts to pants. It’s intriguing to see the new ways this trend is showing up on the red carpet—perfect and grown up, from Judith Light’s feminine take on a tux to Julianna Margulies’ modern, sculptural dress. Leave blush for the brides. We’ll take bright white.

Truth? We can’t take our eyes off jewelry. There’s no shortage of inspiration on the red carpet—like Helen Mirren’s diamond choker, Diane Lane’s edgy, sculptural cuff and bag, and Cate Blanchett’s divine earrings.

Rich color never goes out of style. Three of our favorite star-worthy tones: Carol Burnett Emerald, Diane Lane Sapphire and Viola Davis Amethyst, as seen at the Golden Globes. Who will dare to go this bold on Sunday? We can’t wait to find out.

Here’s who we’re voting for in our Oscar pool: Saoirse Ronan’s layered, sensitive performance in Brooklyn for Best Actress; Sandy Powell’s gorgeous take on 1950’s fashion in Carol for Best Costume Design; and Eve Stewart & Michael Standish for the lovely, artistic interiors in The Danish Girl for Best Production Design. Who are you rooting for? Share your vote in the comments!
