Designer and Blogger Brooke Giannetti on Coastal Living

Brooke Giannetti is a Calfornia-based interior decorator, shop owner, and the blogger behind Velvet & Linen. Brooke frequently collaborates with her husband, architect Steve Giannetti, on projects as well as their store, Giannetti Home. Brooke and Steve’s work has appeared in Veranda Magazine, Coastal Living, HGTV, New Old House, Rue Magazine, and The New York Times among many others. They are currently working on their second book, out Spring 2016. Brooke and Steve live in Ojai with their children, 3 dogs, 3 mini goats, 2 mini donkeys, 12 chickens, and a house bunny.

When Steve and I are developing a color scheme, we look to the outside and bring those hues indoors. For our coastal California home, our many long drives up the coast inspired us to surround ourselves with a beachy palate. Plaster walls and cream-colored linen sofas are echoes of soft white sandy beaches. Timeworn faded carpets with hints of oceanic blues add soothing touches of color. The varied gray tones of driftwood are seen in weathered wood tables, bark-colored seagrass, vintage baskets, aged wood floors, and stone-colored linen upholstery. This mellow backdrop lets all the pieces breathe a bit, allowing your eye to move to the accents – just like in nature. Darker neutral touches, like worn camel-colored leather, tobacco toned woods, and steel gray accessories, provide contrast and add some masculine energy to a room. Watery aquas pull in the blues and greens of the sea as it fades towards the horizon. Celadon and chalky grays from the garden continue to blur the line between indoors and out. The magic is that we respond to natural colors indoors the same way we do when we are at the beach or in the garden – they create a relaxed and happy atmosphere.

I had to take a deep inhale and exhale. I took took time after ordering from Chico’s and read all the relationships info and the decor extra’s. It was refreshing. Thanks Chico, I knew there was more to you than fashions.
