An Hayward Loves New York

An Hayward has been modeling for Chico's since 1999. When she's not modeling, she's at home in Florida with her husband, son, and dog. Fun fact: She is the first lady of Pensacola.

I really like to go anywhere. A place I visit quite often is New York City. I love the vibrancy of city life and that I can just blend in. I miss that because I live in a smaller town where everyone knows me—I’m married to the mayor! In New York everything is right under your fingertips.

Bar Pitti This is a little Italian place in the Village that I’ve been going to for 20 years. It’s a neighborhood spot that’s also a little glamorous. I try to go every time I’m in NY. Everything there is always consistently fresh and good. The tiramisu is delicious. Always look at the daily specials on the board—they are to die for!

The Frick Collection– One of my favorite museums in NY because it’s such a beautiful building. It was built by Henry Clay Frick in 1913-14 for his art collection, and it showcases a lot of the great Belgian painters, like Anthony van Dyck and Peter Paul Rubens. I’m from Antwerp, so it takes me back to my roots. And don’t miss the lovely Fragonard Room!

The Highline– This is one of those things you can’t believe is real. It’s a park that runs up the Lower West Side of Manhattan, from the Meatpacking District up through the ’30s, on old raised train tracks. It’s phenomenal. There is art, views of the river, and native plants everywhere. It’s the city like you’ve never seen it before. I love to get lunch at Chelsea Market and find a place to sit and people watch.

The Crosby Street Hotel– Such a refuge that’s also in the middle of everything! Crosby Street is in the heart of SoHo, but the hotel is set back a bit, and it has these big glass doors. It’s so welcoming yet it feels like a secret! The rooms are luxurious and fun at the same time. The decor is beautiful. And they do the best afternoon tea.

An is one of my favorite models. She is a classy looking lady. I keep trying to get my nerve up to cut my hair like hers. She really does wear it well. Great info about NY.

Great couple of ideas for NYC. Arriving there October 23 and returning on the 27th. Staying at the London Hotel.
Can not wait to see The Frick Museum and try out The Highline.

An, I think you are stunning!! I love your look and your style. It is so refreshing to see a model so comfortable with short hair and inspiring others to follow in their comfort zone. I am 74 with white hair as short as yours and loving it.

An, you set a wonderful example to those who view your modeling and enjoy your warmth. I am 78 and just attended my 60th class reunion. With my short hair and my new “Travelers” mid length slacks and tie on the side “bat wing” top I felt so good about myself. Thanks for being a true role model.

  6. An Hayward, you’re an inspiration! I love seeing you grace the pages of the Chico’s catalog. And their web site.
I’m a former New Yorker & graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology. I’ll be 61 in 2 weeks (Oct. 7th) and love shopping Chico’s for new looks. I’m also happily married to my husband whom I met in July 2008 when I moved from South Florida to West Virginia! Thanks again for inspiring me to reinvent the way I dress and develop my personal style. I’m a real estate investor so dressing professionally helps. Thank you.

  7. Striking is the word for An. Her hair is her trademark. I wear mine short like that for a while and then decide to let it grow. Big mistake. Even though my face is like a pie, very round and full….not suited for short hair at all….when I see An I cut it again.

Also from the south ,and I enjoy short hair and use Maroccan oil. I am headed to N.Y. for my very first time and hope to enjoy some of your fav places. I celebrate our new store; one I have waited on since 1990, after seeing first one in Underground Atlanta. No one makes you feel more important than Chico’s. Love the manager and sales people and visit them almost once a week. Come up and see us in the Burg (Hattiesburg) sometime. Would love to meet you in person. For sure; you will have a great time!

Oh goodness. I too am a fan of yours AND my daughter and her family live in Pensacola. I love going there – especially the beach. Maybe I’ll see you buying shrimp at Joe Patty’s. You never know. I’m 73 and wear my pretty silver hair short because of you. Yeah!
